Jair Jurrjens and Gorkys Hernandez
October 29, 2007
The Atlanta Braves acquired Gorkys Hernandez and Jair Jurrjens in exchange for Edgar Renteria.
Jurrjens will likely serve as the Braves' fifth starter. Here are some significantly similar performances to what Jurrjens has accomplished in the past two seasons:
Best Case
John Lackey (2000)
Dustin McGowan (2003)
Median Case
Angel Guzman (2003)
Taylor Buchholz (2003)
Dustin Moseley (2003)
Worst Case
Jake Dittler (2004)
J.D. Durbin (2003)
Gorkys Hernandez is a toolsy 20-year-old centerfielder who is probably a couple years away from contributing at the major league level. Detroit is invested in Cameron Maybin, so it's not surprising that Hernandez was traded. There are few comparison players for Hernandez, though it's worth noting that Jimmy Rollins was a similar hitter at age 19.
